Dorkbot - Seattle Western Allied Robotics thanks Dorkbot for allowing us to present at their monthly meeting last night. Rich, who spearheaded the effort, has made his terrific presentation available on the Spambutcher website. Thanks, Rich! There was also a terrific presentation on the VEX robotics kit called VEX Good and Bad. I was impressed! If that wasn't enough, a couple of people from SMART showed off their amazing Lego Mindstorm Contraptions. Again, very impressive. Sadly, I missed the chance to really see the contraption in action. Next time for sure! Thank you Dorkbot -Seattle! |

Seattle
Bot Battles 2 UPDATE!!
Volunteers please check out the schedule. If are not available for the times we'd need you, please let me know so I can have a backup arranged for that time. Schedule - Setup starts at 9:30am Check-in/Safety Checks start at
11am. Pre-Tourney Meeting - 11:45 Tournament Begins 12:00 Mall Closes at 5pm, we should be done by then. Last Minute Notes: I am still short on volunteers (and budget to make it worth your while) so go out there and rope your friends/family into helping out for a few hours!!! Don't forget to bring your power strip. We've got a fair number of outlets, but not enough for everyone. If you've got a spare extension cord, it wouldn't hurt to bring that too, though I don't have a specific need for more extension cords. It's entirely possible we'll see the Seattle Times and possibly a local TV crew. Last, but far from least, we have our own bathroom!

Our first event is over and it was pretty much a success! All of the volunteers did a great job and I think I can say that both the audience and the competitors had a good time. There were a few areas for improvements, but those can be addressed for the next competition. |
|
04/10/02 |
Updated the Event Info page with a link to directions to get to Gasworks Park and with a schedule for the event. |
|
03/18/02 |
NOTICE: Rule change. I changed the rule in the list of banned weapons that said "Any kind of flammable liquid" to read "Any kind of liquid". We will not allow any kind of weapon that attacks using liquid, such as a squirt gun. Sorry if this effected anyone's design. Let me know if you have any questions or concerns. |
|
03/13/02 |
We have a confirmed location and date. Whoohoo! The event will be at Gasworks Park in Seattle on April the 14th. I will be posting a map and more info shortly. |
|
03/04/02 |
Some much needed updates. First construction of the arena is progressing nicely, go to the Arena section to see updated and more detailed info about the box. Unfortunately progress on finding a location to hold the event isn't going as smooth. It is surprisingly difficult to find a place that meets our requirements (Covered, ample electricity, room for 50+ people, the arena, pit tables, etc). We are looking at a few places but it could be a couple of more weeks before we find out. Please be patient, we are a long way from exhausting all options and I am confident we will find a place. Last bit of information, I am leaving town on vacation for a week so I won't be responding to emails for awhile. Feel free to email me and I will respond to them when I get back. I will still have my phone and will continue to work on finding a location. |
|
02/13/02 |
I added a link to a list of judging guidelines courtesy of Andrew Lindsey to the combat section of the rules. These will be the guidelines we will use for the event. |
|
02/11/02 |
After some talk about having an Antweight combat competition here in the NW, we decided to get organized about it. Brett Dawson (builder of UGV Scorpion, Battlebots LW at TI2) is building the Arena and I am handling the logistics of holding the event. I am currently scouting for locations ( most likely somewhere between Seattle and Olympia WA). We are shooting for a Sunday competition in early April. It may seem odd to announce an event before we have an arena or location set in stone, but we wanted to give people plenty of time to get their robots ready. We want to get between 10 and 50 robots. |
